Abstract:   (12 Views)
Introduction: Type 2 diabetes is associated with numerous metabolic complications and occurs as a result of a failure in insulin secretion in tissues. This study aimed to investigate the effect of eight weeks of resistance training and aerobic training on serum alkaline phosphatase levels and glycemic control indicators (fasting blood sugar and glycosylated hemoglobin) in women with type 2 diabetes. Materials and Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 21 women aged 35-60 with diabetes were randomly divided into three groups: resistance training (N=7), aerobic training (N=7), and control (N=7). Resistance training was performed for 8 weeks, starting at 40% of 1RM in the first week and increasing to 75% of 1RM. Aerobic training was also performed at 40% of maximum heart rate in the first week, then increased to 70% in the second week.Blood samples were collected after 12 hours of fasting, both before and after the intervention. Data analysis was performed using MANOVA and ANOVA at the 0.05 significance level. Results: Aerobic exercise resulted in a significant increase in alkaline phosphatase compared with the control group (P=0.034). However, none of the exercise interventions had a significant effect on fasting blood sugar (P=0.967) or HbA1c (P=0.107). Also, no significant difference was observed between the resistance training and control groups in terms of alkaline phosphatase levels (P=0.598). Conclusion: Eight weeks of aerobic exercise can have a positive effect on alkaline phosphatase levels, while this period is not sufficient to create significant changes in glycemic indices.Combining the two exercises in a comprehensive management program for diabetic patients is recommended.
