Abstract:   (162 Views)
Introduction: Obesity is a significant public health concern, with a rapidly increasing prevalence among adolescents. This systematic review aims to evaluate the effects of community-based obesity prevention interventions on body image satisfaction in this age group. Materials and Methods: A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. We searched six electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, ProQuest, PsycINFO, and CINAHL) for relevant studies published between January 2015 and July 2024. Inclusion criteria targeted community-based interventions aimed at obesity prevention in adolescents aged 10-19 years. Two reviewers independently extracted and assessed data, focusing on study design, participant characteristics, intervention components, and outcomes related to body image satisfaction. Results: Six eligible studies involving 4,568 adolescents from countries including Spain, South Korea, Brazil (two studies), Saudi Arabia, and France were included. The studies showed varying degrees of success in enhancing body image satisfaction. While some reported significant improvements post-intervention, two studies involving Brazilian adolescent girls did not demonstrate statistically significant changes. Conclusions: Community-based obesity prevention interventions can positively influence body image, a key mental health aspect. Gender and socio-cultural factors must be considered in the design of these interventions.
