INSTRUCTION TO AUTHORS

  1. Aims and Scope: The “Iranian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism “is the a scientific bimonthly publication in the field of endocrinology and metabolism. The journal accepts Original Papers, Review Articles, Short Communications and Letters to Editor in the fields of endocrine and metabolism.
  1. Submission: Manuscript must be accompanied by a covering letter to the Editor-in-Chief, including title and author(s) name and undertaking that it has not been published or submitted elsewhere. The text should be submitted in Microsoft Word format as an attachment. The figures should be sent in a format of JPEG or GIF which will produce high quality images in the online edition of the journal.Submission is acceptable via Journal URL: http: //ijem. org. ir.
  1. The manuscript should include: Title page; the Abstract; Introduction; Materials & Methods; Results; Discussion; Acknowledgement and References.
- The title page: The complete title of the manuscript, the name of all the authors with their highest qualifications, the department or institution to which they are attached, address for correspondence with telephone numbers, anf e-mail address.
-  First page: Full manuscript title, authors' names, department, hospital, faculty, university, city or workplace, academic degree and rank of the authors; postal address, phone, fax numbers, and preferably an official university email address of the corresponding author; running title with a maximum of six words.
  • Second page: Abstract up to 250 words for original research articles, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses; 120-150 words for policy briefs. Abstracts for original research, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses must include Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusion sections. Narrative review abstracts and policy briefs should be unstructured. Include 3 to 10 keywords after the abstract.
  • Third page: English abstract matching exactly the Persian abstract (200-250 words).
  •  From the fourth page onward: Main text structured as follows:

 Original research articles: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion.
      Systematic reviews and meta-analyses: Introduction, Materials and Methods (subsections: study type, data sources and search strategy, inclusion criteria, data extraction, quality assessment, statistical methods for meta-analyses), Results, Discussion and Conclusion.
     Policy brief: Introduction stating the issue, its importance, existing gaps (knowledge, communication, social, operational), objectives; Definition of the topic including challenges, proposed solutions, existing national programs, suggestions for problem resolution, implementation strategies with references to research, articles, and programs; Discussion and Conclusion (120-250 words). Policy briefs generally range between 1500 and 2500 words.
  • Separate pages for acknowledgments, references, tables, figures, images, and their legends should be provided.

4. References must be numbered consecutively as cited in the text and listed in the reference section in the same order.

5. The maximum number of figures and tables acceptable is: 6 for original research and meta-analyses, 5 for systematic and narrative reviews, and a maximum of 1 table and 1 figure for policy briefs. Charts should be created in Microsoft Excel and uploaded with specific names to the manuscript file. Charts must be 2D, without margins or decorations, sized no larger than 12 by 8 cm, and printed separately by laser printer.
- Tables must be created using the Table tool in Microsoft Word, not as images. They should be numbered sequentially and cited in the text accordingly. Non-standard abbreviations used in tables must be explained in footnotes.

6.  Images must be uploaded as separate TIF files with 300 dpi resolution with proper names. Images should be clear, sharp, and technically suitable for high-quality printing. Photocopies should not be used as images, and color images should be avoided as much as possible. Radiographic images must meet the size standards outlined (73x127 mm to a maximum of 354x203 mm). Images and figures must be numbered consecutively and arranged according to their citation order. If an image is previously published, the source must be mentioned in the acknowledgments, and written permission must be submitted.

7. Financial sources supporting the research and any technical assistance must be listed under acknowledgments before the references.

8. Conflict of interest declarations must be the last sentence before the references section. Authors must acknowledge and declare any sources of funding and potential conflicting interest, such as receiving funds or fees by, or holding stocks and shares in, an organization that may profit or lose through publication of your paper. Declaring a competing interest will not lead to automatic rejection of the paper, but we would like to be made aware of it.

9. References: All manuscripts should be accompanied by relevant references. The author should ensure reference to locally published studies by doing proper literature search. It may not be possible for the editor and reviewers to check the accuracy of all reference citations. To minimize such errors author should verify references against the original documents. The Reference should provide the following information as stated in the presented models as
follows:
Article: list all authors when there are six or fewer, when there are seven or more, list the first six, then “et al”

10. Writing principles:
- Abstracts should not contain footnotes.
- Exact p-values should be reported up to three decimal places whenever possible, e.g., if p = 0.003, report exactly; use p < 0.05 only if p = 0.00001 should be reported as p < 0.001. If p = 0.275, report exactly and not as p > 0.05.

11. Page charges: There are no charges for publication in this Journal.
12. Copyright: The entire contents of the Iranian of Journal Endocrinology and Metabolism are protected under international copyrights. You may not modify copy, distribute, transmit, display, or publish any materials contained on the Journal without the prior written permission of it or the appropriate copyright owner.
13. Peer review process: All manuscripts are considered to be confidential. They are peerreviewed by at least 2 anonymous reviewers selected by the Editorial Board. The corresponding author is notified as soon as possible of the editorial decision on the manuscript. If the manuscript is accepted, it is scheduled for the next available issue.
14. Disposal of material: Once published, all copies of the manuscript, correspondence and artwork will be held for 6 months before disposal.
The Final Checklist
The authors must ensure that before submitting the manuscript for publication, they have taken care of the following:
  1. Title page should contain title, name of the author/co-authors, their qualifications, designation & institutions they are affiliated with and mailing address for future correspondence, E-mail address, Phone & Fax number.
  2. Abstract in Structured format up to 250 words.
  3. References mentioned as stated in the Instruction to Authors section.
  4. Tables should be typed on separate pages.
  5. Make sure for Headings of Tables, their numbers and Captions of illustrations. Don’t repeat the Information in tables if it is covered in the text.
  6. Photographs / illustrations along with their captions.
  7. Manuscript in Triplicate
  8. Letter of Undertaking signed by all the authors.
  9. Disclosure regarding source of funding and conflict of interest if any besides approval of the study from respective Ethics Committee/Institution Review Board.
  10. Covering Letter
