Abstract:   (8 Views)
The increasing prevalence of thyroid cancer in Iran and the world has highlighted the necessity of improving early diagnostic strategies and appropriate therapeutic approaches. Despite the effective role of conventional genetic, epigenetic, and biochemical assessments in the clinical management of this disease, these approaches still do not, in some cases, meet all the requirements for early detection and the design of fully personalized treatments. The intratumoral microbiome has been associated with the progression of various cancers, and preliminary evidence suggests it may influence treatment response and clinical outcomes, or be affected by these treatments. The possible role of the intratumoral microbiome in cancer progression, particularly thyroid cancer, has been considered a novel approach. The aim of this study is to elucidate the role of the intratumoral microbiome in the development of thyroid cancer and to evaluate its potential as a novel biomarker and therapeutic target. Therefore, we searched relevant keywords in English across Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, and Google Scholar between 2012 and 2026 and reviewed the studies. A review of published studies shows that the intratumoral microbiome and its associated metabolites interact with the tumor microenvironment and may serve as potential biomarkers or therapeutic targets to improve early detection strategies and targeted therapies, and may help reduce treatment side effects and improve patients' quality of life. However, because this field is emerging, confirming clinical effects and clarifying its role in advancing personalized medicine requires further studies and more extensive experimental evidence.
